A National Initiative:
Pilot Project for Mercury-free Healthcare in Ireland


A joint project has two major environment health networks, the Irish Doctors Environmental Association (IDEA) and the Health and Environment Alliance join forces to campaign for the reduction and elimination of mercury medical devices in health care settings. Objectives of the Project are:

  • To carry out a mercury survey for base line data.
  • To document cases study of best practice models.
  • To facilitated workshops in providing expertise and information on the management and achievement of mercury-free healthcare environments.
  • To coordinate hair testing in mercury.
  • To act as a national coordination point for the mercury campaign.

    Mercury Survey

    The survey is directed towards all disciplines of healthcare professionals and can be completed online for the first 2 months of 2007 with a closing date for filling in the survey of the 28th February 2007. Access to the survey is online at:
